Growing up I was involved in sports all my life. I have a passion for sports and for the last several years have been coaching at the Mauldin Recreational Center. I take a great deal of pride in coaching and teaching children not only the fundamentals, but how to be competitive and work as a team. It's fun watching the children transform throughout a season. At 6, 7, & 8 the goals are not lowered and are standard height and the only exception is the free throw line. The free throw line is half of the normal distance.
In the first playoff game we went into double overtime and the score was like 45 - 43. Coaching for 7 years, I have never seen a playoff game like this one. Both teams fought hard and it was amazing to see a gym full of parents and relatives routing for these kids. We won the championship game with seconds left by a single point. Though they were only 6, 7, and 8 years old each child learned about 15 plays, and ran some last minute inbound plays to perfection. They deserved the championship and only suffered one loss throughout the entire season. Thanks guys, and see you next year!
